Megan Thee Stallionâs latest video proves that Kristen Wiig was right all alongâbeing Jumanjiâd is a real and present threat and we should all be way more concerned about it. Also, Jumanji-ing obviously means the characters come out of the game to kill you rather than you going in; none of that Jack Black/The Rock nonsense!
The âBoaâ video sees Megan flex her freedom, love of cosplay, and biceps in the second release since she officially became an independent artist under her own Hot Girl Productions label. The VHS-ready clip opens with a bunch of kids keying up a retro video game called âCurse Of The Serpent Womanâ and then promptly disregarding the instructions, as future Jumanji victims are wont to do.
Those instructions clearly read âThis is the way you die in real life,â which proceeds to happen to each player in increasingly creative ways as Meganâs characters transcend their various digital boundaries. Thereâs a Street Fighter reference, a huge Dance Dance Revolution set, and an awesome Snake (the game) moment that we wonât spoilâitâs a pretty great time overall.
âBoaâ is the third single from Meganâs upcoming LP. While the album doesnât have an official title yet, it will almost definitely be snake-related. âBoaâ follows âCobraâ and âHissâ (which kicked off that whole Nicki Minaj feud), and continues the rapperâs trend of fanged, venomous videos. âI was inspired to create this album about rebirth because I feel I am becoming a new person physically and mentally,â she said in an April interview with Womenâs Health. She chose the snake motif because âtheyâre feared, misunderstood, respected, healing.â
The songâwhich Megan also released six other versions of today including an acapella version, a sped up version, and moreâre-asserts the artistâs lasting place in culture. âBitch your time is up, why is you not clocking out?â she raps over a well-chosen sample from Gwen Stefaniâs Love Angel Music Baby track, âWhat You Waiting For?â âDoinâ shit for TikTok/Bitch, Iâm really hip-hop,â the chorus continues. Even if TikTok really is banned this year, Megan keeps on proving that sheâs here to stay.
