Exactly one month after Star Wars Day, the newest “Star Wars” series has finally arrived. “The Acolyte,” which takes place 100 years before the franchise’s prequel trilogy, is now available to stream on Disney+.

Set during the High Republic era of the “Star Wars” universe, the new series is the farthest back in the timeline the franchise has gone in a live-action production. An official logline for the first season reveals, “An investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg). As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems.”

The streamer released an official trailer for the show in March. In the teaser, viewers see Lee’s Jedi master teaching a group of younglings as Stenberg’s cloaked assassin attempts to kill a fellow Jedi, played by Carrie-Anne Moss, in a cantina. A group of Jedi begin the hunt across the galaxy for the killer before she’s able to pick them all off one by one. In a climactic battle scene, the Jedi unsheathe their multicolored lightsabers and prepare to battle the assassin, who wields her own red lightsaber.

Variety exclusively reported “The Acolyte” was in the works back in 2020. It was officially announced by Lucasfilm at the annual “Star Wars” Day celebration later that same year.

“The Acolyte” is the latest Disney+ “Star Wars” show, with fellow new series “Skeleton Crew” still awaiting a premiere date. The streamer has previously released shows like “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” “Andor,” “Ahsoka,” and “The Book of Boba Fett.” Season 2 of “Andor” recently wrapped filming. Disney+ is also home to the hit series “The Mandalorian.” That show has aired three seasons to date, with a movie set to begin production later this year.

Stream “The Acolyte” on Disney+ beginning June 4.
