Mikey Day On Why That Beavis & Butt-Head Sketch Left Heidi Gardner In Stitches

Saturday Night Liveā€˜s Mikey Day understands why Heidi Gardner couldnā€™t get through last monthā€™s now infamous Beavis and Butt-Head sketch: His Butt-Head face was just too much to take in all at once.

On Late Night With Seth Meyers this week, Day recalled the sketch, which co-starred Ryan Gosling as the Beavis look-alike, and how the dress rehearsal, though the two were in full costume, didnā€™t have quite the oomph as the on-air version. Gardner, as millions of viewers have seen, was playing a NewsNation host moderating a town hall who doesnā€™t realize that two men with uncanny resemblances to the cartoon duo are in the audience.

When Gardner turned around to look at Day, she lost her composure and couldnā€™t stop laughing.

Day told Meyers, ā€œAt dress, the wig was a little far forward so on air there was just more head, and it felt like my face was moreā€¦ā€ He paused, maybe unable to quite describe the power of the bizarre resemblance. ā€œItā€™s a lot to take in,ā€ Day continued.

Day concedes he ā€œput a little more sauceā€ on his impression during the on-air sketch. ā€œI just kind of tried to look her right in the eyes and just go ā€˜Hi! Iā€™m insane!ā€™ā€

Gardner later told Day, ā€œYou didnā€™t look human.ā€
